A few weeks before the liberation, the Pole Jankowski arrives in Buchenwald concentration camp with a transport. He is carrying a suitcase with him, which he does not want to put out of his hand. Prisoners Pippig and Höfel, who work in the securities room, are deeply shocked when they discover a child in the suitcase. Hiding the child in the camp is not only extremely difficult, it also endangers the work of the illegal resistance group. After the child has been hidden in the depot for several days, the head of the illegal Communist Party organization decides with a heavy heart to send the Pole and the child to the extermination camp with the next transport. However, the camp elder, Walter Krämer, refuses to let this happen, and he finds many helpers who, with courage and ingenuity, stand up to the SS and help humanity achieve victory. They succeed in saving the child.
