Vienna – President of the National Council Doris Bures (SPÖ) rebuked Member of Parliament Johannes Hübner (FPÖ) for his allegedly anti-Semitic remarks: “Anti-Semitism is unacceptable in any form, “ Bures emphasized on Friday vis-a-vis the Austrian Press Agency (APA). “Members of Parliament serve by example, which requires a particularly responsible handling of history.”

To be rejected sharply

Hübner and the FPÖ have to realize that such sharply rejectable statements damage Austria’s reputation, the president of the National Council explained.

The Member of Parliament for the FPÖ is said to have made connoted anti-Semitic remarks at a convention in Germany last year. He has rejected allegations of anti-Semitism. The FPÖ has declined to take any action.

The SPÖ has recently agreed to a criteria catalogue including a so-called values compass, which marked a departure of the party’s strict rejection of the FPÖ. Hübner’s remarks have been condemned as “absolutely absurd and unacceptable” by the federal chancellor and head of the SPÖ, Christian Kern: ”In order to evaluate this behavior, one does not have to consult our value s compass for long.”
