Ambassador Eizenstat on Holocaust Justice in Austria

On May 27, Ambassador Stuart E. Eizenstat gave the Ernst Sucharipa Memorial Lecture at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna. His speech focused on Holocaust Justice in Austria, and the broader challenge of how to draw lessons from the Holocaust for the 21st century. He also spoke about the role of Austrian diplomat Ernst Sucharipa in advancing restitution cases in Austria. 

Eizenstat is an American diplomat and attorney. He served as the United States Ambassador to the European Union from 1993 to 1996 and as the United States Deputy Secretary of the Treasury from 1999 to 2001. During the Clinton Administration (1993-2001) Mr. Eizenstat was Special Representative of the President and Secretary of State for Holocaust-Era Issues. He is currently Special Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State on Holocaust-Era Issues and serves as a partner at the Washington, D.C.-based law firm Covington & Burling.
