  • RIO Kino 18 Marktgasse Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, 6800 Austria (map)

With an introduction to the film by Anika Reichwald (Jewish Museum Hohenems).

Director: Thomas Haemmerli | Switzerland 2018, 99 min., documentary film

"Gentrification is Me. Confession of a Finsterling" is making fun of everything and everyone. About the leftists who want to preserve everything and are afraid of progress... About the rightists who whine that the foreigner takes away their apartment, job and the last train seat. The essay argues for dense, vertically built cities and declares the 20-million-metropolis São Paulo as a model for Switzerland. It follows the residential vita of the author, who used to squat and now owns in the trendy neighborhood, who collects apartments worldwide and thus makes himself a gentrification villain...

Director Thomas Haemmerli takes us to world metropolises like Tbilisi, São Paulo and Mexico City. And he investigates why apartments are so expensive in Swiss cities, even though construction cranes are everywhere. Without ever wielding the moral club, he asks why renovations are being carried out everywhere and why tenants suddenly find themselves on the street. A fast-paced, innovatively designed film - humorous, self-deprecating, provocative.

A film screening in the program accompanying the exhibition "Am Rand. Living together in the Untergass'", in cooperation with the vai Vorarlberger Architektur Institut and the TaS cinema.
