The protagonists of the film are the director's parents, Yitshak and Fruma. He's 80, she's 72. They are Holocaust survivors. While Tsipi Reibenbach observes the ritualized everyday life of her parents in a apartment block in Israel, her father recounts how he survived the extermination of the ghetto of Miechow, Auschwitz-Birkenau and Mauthausen. He is the only survivor who worked in the crematorium and gas chamber of the Mauthausen concentration camp ('Zünderkommando'). Reibenbach's mother will not and cannot talk about it. Under the effect of the camera, however, she opens up and talks about hunger and humiliation in the labour camp, about her family who had stayed at home and no longer exists.
