“The PhotoHouse” is Israel’s oldest photo shop. Founded in 1936 in the heart of Tel Aviv by photographer Rudi Weissenstein and his wife Miriam, today it is one of the largest private archives of historical photography. It houses over one million photographic negatives documenting Israel’s fascinating history, illuminating the spirit, atmosphere, people and crucial historical events of Israel from the 1930s to the 1970s, such as the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel in 1948. “The PhotoHouse” has been family-owned for three generations and is run today by Rudi’s grandson Ben Peter Weissenstein; the photographs travel around the world in numerous exhibitions.

Gottfried & Söhne has been working with the archive since the beginning. On the occasion of the “Foto Wien” Festival, the fascinating pictures of Rudi Weissenstein, who formerly attended the Graphical Education and Research Institute in Vienna, will be presented here as well.

Duration of the exhibition: March 22–April 11, 2019
Opening of the exhibition: March 21, 2019, 6:00 p.m.
