In a desert landscape in the shadow of the huge border fence that was built to control illegal immigrants from Mexico seven Americans tell how the border changed their life. Swaying between fear, indignation and sometimes compassion we will follow the footsteps of immigrants even though you will never encounter them.
The press:
"Walls against migration: This concept does not only applies to Europe but also to the american-mexican border. The border fence leads through the middle of the barren desert and separates the two states. A small american community lives in the shadow of the fence which is there to deny access to the country to illegal immigrants. "Broken land" is a film about paranoia, fear and confinement. As a Visual and political metaphor it shows how the migration issue affects the development of the great democracies of the western world." «ARD.de
"[...] Barbeys and Peters exposition puts together a tremendous historical context, results in a few settings of the freedom and boundlessness of the newly discovered world of Defense ideology and their expression correlate: the aggression. «filmexplorer.ch".
