Rainer C. Regatschnig and Mag. Birgit Jung opened Austria’s first Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studio in Vienna, thus bringing the world-famous dance and film legend back to the country where everything began with Astaire’s father.
Fred Astaire’s father Fritz Austerlitz was born in Linz. After a stopover in Vienna, he emigrated to the USA and landed in Omaha, Nebraska, where his son Frederick came into the world on May 10, 1899. Frederick was to become the world-renowned film dancer and founded the Fred Astaire Dance Studios in 1947, which meanwhile have 170 branches worldwide. Hardly anyone else is so closely connected to dancing as the legendary Fred Astaire, who with his dancing style and his numerous film roles had a long-lasting influence all around the globe. He has gone down in history as the most talented dancer of all time and was very committed to handing down his knowledge to posterity as well. In this spirit, the Fred Astaire Dance School passes on the legacy and the dance school owners Rainer C. Regatschnig and Mag. Birgit Jung will entertain and surprise visitors with first-hand stories, anecdotes and things worth knowing about the Austrian-Jewish roots of the showman at this event.
Every visitor will receive a free, brand-new CD “Puttin’ On the Ritz – A Tribute to Fred Astaire” with new interpretations of the known Fred Astaire classics, which Rainer C. Regatschnig produced together with the Berlin-based DJs Wolfgang Lohr and Justin Fidéle, featuring stars like Taco, Right Said Fred, Alexander Rybak, Gani Tamir, Stella Jones and other top international acts, for the 70th anniversary of the Fred Astaire Dance Studio.
