Yom Ha’Shoah Memorial Day

Since 1951, Israel has celebrated Yom Ha’Shoah on 27 Nissan as a national holiday commemorating the victims of the Shoah and the ghetto resistance fighters. The Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem in Jerusalem organizes a memorial service every year on this date attended by members of the government. This event also commemorates non-Jewish heroes who saved the lives of Jews. Various programs are organized in schools and educational institutes to ensure that the Shoah is not forgotten by younger generations. During the morning, sirens sound throughout the city, and public life comes to a standstill for two minutes.

The Jewish Museum Vienna is organizing a commemorative event at 5 p.m. on April 28 at Dorotheergasse 11. We will observe a minute of silence and present and describe selected objects.
